Share sales credit without counting a deal twice

THE SHORT ANSWER

Shared sales credit allocates a deal’s value among contributors while keeping the deal total unchanged. A clear model separates the accountable owner, each participant’s percentage, and the permissions each person has to view or edit the record.

One owner does not mean one contributor

A relationship may begin with one person and move forward with help from several others. Keep one primary owner responsible for the next step, and record contribution separately. This avoids turning collaboration into ambiguous ownership.

Credit should not automatically grant every participant the same editing powers. Reading context, changing a deal, and accessing a private message draft are different capabilities. Relavoy keeps those permissions separate.

Make the allocation total 100%

Consider an illustrative $10,000 opportunity shared 60% with the primary owner and 40% with a collaborator. Their allocated values are $6,000 and $4,000; the workspace total is still $10,000.

Participant deal counts can overlap because both people contributed to the same opportunity. Summing those counts is not the same as counting distinct opportunities. Reports need to make that difference explicit.

  • Include the primary owner in the allocation.
  • Require percentages to total exactly 100%.
  • Show allocated value separately from distinct deal totals.
  • Keep currency visible and amounts in exact minor units.

Keep an opportunity stable when a lead changes

Lead ownership and credit can change as a relationship develops. That should not silently rewrite the allocation of an existing opportunity.

In Relavoy, deal allocations are snapshots independent of later contact splits. The model retains historical deal credit for inactive teammates, preserving context when someone leaves the active team.

Handle the last cent consistently

Percentage splits can produce fractions of a cent. Rounding each participant independently can make the pieces add up to more or less than the original amount. Use a consistent allocation rule that preserves the exact total.

Relavoy’s reporting allocates minor units deterministically so participant amounts reconcile with the deal value. These are CRM attribution figures, not a payroll, commission-payment, or accounting system. Any compensation policy needs its own explicit rules and review.
